Age ratings

Age ratings
In the UK, age ratings on films are determined by the BBFC (The British Board of Film Classification). It is basically to state how old a person has to be to watch different films. It is decided through a board of members who listen to the public's opinion on content. They take into consideration:

  • Discrimination
  • Drug use
  • Horror
  • Imitable behaviour
  • Language
  • Nudity
  • Sex
  • Themes
  • UK Film classification certificates.
    Uc was retired in 2009.
  • Violence
The more explicit, the higher the age rating. In general an 18 certificate allows for the above and considers the adult viewing the film has the right to decide what they watch (within reason and the law). The different age ratings are as follows:

  • U - Universal (suitable for all).
  • PG - Parental guidance; General viewing (unaccompanied     child of any age may watch but some scenes may upset children under 8).
  • 12 - Suitable for 12 years and over.
  • 12A - Suitable for 12 years and over but a child under 12 may watch in a cinema if accompanied by an adult.
  • 15 - Suitable for 15 and over.
  • 18 - Suitable for 18 and over.
  • R18- Suitable for 18 and over but are only shown in specialist cinemas and shops.

For our film, we have decided on a certificate of 15 as the film will contain some violence, horror and language.
